Marcus Rashford Endorsements

Nike has trimmed its football roaster in recent years, as it is restructuring its football strategy. But, Marcus Rashford continues to be one of the prominent names in its list of sponsored athletes. The youngster has taken part in several Nike commercials over the last couple of years.

Nike has released a short film before the start of the European Championships in June 2021, promoting diversity in football. Ironically, Rashford was subject to racial abuse following his unfortunate penalty miss in the EURO final. However, the video was a big triumph for Nike as the American sportswear giant had just agreed to new terms with the England star, as Puma was lurking around with a lucrative offer.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but it is expected to involve way more money than the previous 2 million five-year deal.

Rashford has also promoted McDonald’s. The fast-food chain had donated a million free meals during Rashford’s child hunger alleviation campaign.

Marcus Rashford Heritage

Coming from a Caribbean background, Marcus has Caribbean blood flowing through his veins. His grandmother comes from Saint Kitts, but he was born in Manchester. Rashford’s father was not in the picture, and his mother, Melanie Rashford, solely raised him. As a result, Rashford is very close to his mum.

Melanie used to work as a cashier, and it was she who got Marcus admitted to the Manchester United academy. She pushed to enrol Marcus in a programme that was initially for 12-year-olds when he was only 11. Rashford’s family moved to Wythenshawe when he was nine. The location is famous for the shooting spot of Channel 4’s hit show Shameless.

Marcus Rashford has two brothers-Dwaine Maynard and Dane Rashford. Dane works as Marcus’s agent. He also has a step sister-Tamara Rashford, who is a former Miss England finalist.

Marcus Rashford Charity

Marcus Rashford’s charity endeavours gained prominence when he campaigned for providing free mid-day meals to school kids during the lockdowns. But, he had been fighting against food poverty in England long before that. In 2019, he co-launched the In The Box programme to provide food to homeless people during the festive periods.

Even before, Rashford regularly visited homeless shelters with his mother and gave away food boxes to the needy. When the pandemic dealt its first blow in England, Rashford teamed up with FareShare to deliver free food to disadvantaged Manchester kids, deprived of their school meals because of the lockdown.

Rashford managed to raise £20 million in funds which funded no less than 3 million meals across the country by June 2020. By July, that number rose to four million. On June 15, Rashford wrote an open letter to the British government urging them to facilitate and support free school meals during shutdowns and holidays. Despite initial objections from many politicians, the British government agreed to his demands.

Rashford didn’t stop his mission there. He started a petition for further government intervention in eradicating child food poverty in the UK. The petition drew more than 200,000 signatures on the first day, twice the amount of signatures necessary for the matter to be discussed in parliament. Unfortunately, the proposal received only 261 votes in favour and 322 against it.

Rashford’s work in combating child hunger earned high appraisal in both home and abroad. Former US President Barack Obama personally praised his initiatives over a video chat and cited him as a role model for the youth. Apart from food safety, Rashford is lobbying for a permanent rise in universal credit. Moreover, he is involved in anti-literacy campaigns.
