They first met in Sand End playgroup, where Groves’s mother would take him frequently. The two became the best of friends, and their relationship took a turn for the romantic later on.
As a student, Groves was brilliant. He used to go to Sheen International School and was particularly good at mathematics. He was equally excellent, or perhaps even more, in boxing and sports.

Groves was born in a middle class working family in Fulham. His father, Donny Groves, was also a boxer, but he never got his big break. His mother Yvonne, on the other hand, used to work at stores.
Donny and Yvonne only gave birth to one child leaving George with no brother or sister.
