Six Promising Players Football Fans Should Have Their Money On

Guys playing cards

Summer has one month left, which means the 2022 World Cup is edging ever closer. Many football fans are probably partaking in live football betting available here or wagering with their friends. But who should you place your bets on?

Some readers are probably asking, “isn’t it unusual to bet on individual players in football?” Usually, one would bet on teams instead. “Proposition (prop) bets,” however, are more or less standard practice. For example, you wouldn’t say “£40 on Ronaldo,” you’d say “£40 on Ronaldo scoring 3 goals.”

That’s why we have picked six players that you can make good prop bets on before the World Cup. Get creative; we tried to think beyond scoring goals!

1. Most Goals: Cristiano Ronaldo

Don’t look so shocked; even with a manager who might not match him, Cristiano Ronaldo is still one of the best football players in the world. He is a goal-scoring machine, and that talent has earned him a massive number of sponsorships. Unfortunately, many people will probably bet on Ronaldo, so maybe another bet is in order.

2. Best Defence: Virgil van Dijk

But a massive offense requires a great defence to counter it. “Ronaldo VS Van Dijk” has been a popular debate in the football fandom for the same reason that “what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?” is a popular paradox. Ronaldo is usually a goal-scoring machine but seems to falter in Van Dijk’s presence.

3. Great Teamwork: Erling Haaland

…and Jack Grealish. There is no “I” in “team,” but Premier League’s website has noticed something special about the potential field chemistry between the two. Only time will tell; if they perform well at West Ham, Haaland and Grealish could be a dream team on MCI.

4. Best Tactics: Neymar Jr.

Now we’re looking at other teams that might win the World Cup. Brazil, England, and France all have a solid shot. We’ve covered plenty of players on British football teams; here are some from other parts of the world for your consideration.

Like a magician, Neymar appears to be able to make space out of nothing. WeMakeFootballers details how Neymar does three of his best tricks: the heel drag back, the inside stepover Panna, and the Okocha sombrero flick. They are all fun to watch, but please be careful when trying them yourself!

We aren’t saying that Brazil will win the World Cup. We are saying that Neymar Jr is a tricky player and that Brazil has a good shot at the WC because of him. He currently plays for Paris St. Germain, so watch him there before the big game. He will be playing for the Brazilian national team.

5. Rising Star: Kylian Mbappe

Earlier this year, there were rumours that Mbappe might leave PSG. These rumours have flip-flopped, saying that he might be going to Real Madrid after all. Regardless of where he winds up, Mbappe has been one of the best attackers in football for over 5 years, so eyes are on him already. In his 29 appearances, he’s performed 16 assists and scored 19 goals…and he’s only 23. He plays for the French national team.

6. Best of All Time? Lionel Messi

Football fans debate whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is “the greatest of all time (GOAT).” Messi’s stats are very similar to Ronaldo’s, with slightly fewer appearances, scant fewer goals, and way, way more assists. Proponents of Messi also cite his consistency versus Ronaldo. Here are their stats on Goal.com so you can have a healthy debate and wager accordingly. Messi currently plays for PSG and the Argentine national team.

Conclusion

We realize that placing bets on individual players is uncommon. That does, however, mean that it can also be more rewarding if you get it down to an art! Do your research and you too can master the game in a way you never thought possible. Again: no matter how much money is on the line, please keep your bets civil and your practices safe. Have fun!
