Can CONOR MCGREGOR make a UFC come back?

4 Minute Read -

First there was the Brooklyn Bus Attack, followed by the sexual assault allegations. Lastly the unforgiving attack on an old man in a Dublin pub. The unknown man only refused a shot of Conor’s ‘Proper Number Twelve’ whiskey.
To Conor’s credit, he is on record apologizing profusely for the Brooklyn Bus Attack and the cowardly sucker punch.
The opinionated, loud mouthed famous New York & Breakfast Club DJ, ‘Charlemagne the God’ summed up the cowardly attack on his nationally syndicated radio show. Where he scolded the former UFC Champion and derided him with the  beautiful line; “Conor McGregor, your whisky is like your left hook, a cheap-ass shot!”

“Conor you hit an old man with your famous left hand and couldn’t even knock him off his bar stool”

Interestingly the famous New York DJ raised a brilliant point; “Conor you hit an old man with your famous left hand and couldn’t even knock him off his barstool, if you can’t knock an old man off his bar stool, how do you expect to win against Nate Diaz or Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Which leads us nicely to Conor’s motivation, the Dublin fighter waxes lyrical of his love for the fight game. Even before the loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC President Dana White proselytized that Conor would never fight again after the Mayweather fight. “Conor’s got a hundred million dollars in the bank, how much motivation would you have to get kicked in face if you had a hundred million dollars in the bank…?

UFC comment……

Dana & Conor (press conference)

A UFC spokesman and President raised a good point; l grew up in an era where many a fighter had worldwide fame and accolades, only to end up broke, destitute and alone. Many great fighters have died alone. In the case of Henry Armstrong, it was weeks until the neighbours reported a stench coming from his apartment. The police broke in to find his decomposing corpse. Or the Brown Bomber, the Great Joe Louis, who died pennilessly. Former adversary Max Schmeling paid for his funeral. So the aim of the fight game is to get out in time with all your mental faculties still intact and a truckload of cash smartly invested in a diversified portfolio.

Between criminal fight promoters stealing fighter’s money, ruthless ex-wives and hefty divorce settlements, child maintenance, alimony, the trivial lawsuits, the private jets, paternity cases, Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s, the ten thousand dollar a night hotel suites, expensive jewelry, limousines, and frivolous lifestyles of the super-athletes, it’s no mystery why so many sports stars end up broke. Tragically it seems those in the fight game end up the worst off of all former athletes. Tyson upon his release from incarceration had two hundred million dollars in the bank. Then somehow ended up in debt and owing millions to the tax man.

Conor punches Khabib

That does not mean other sports are immune to ending up broke. Former NFL legend Vin Baker earned a hundred million dollars throughout his illustrious career. Now works as an assistant manager at Starbucks.
I digress, the aim of a fighter is to make enough money to retire and never worry about money again. Let alone have to work again!

The future for Conor Mcgregor….

So it begs the question, how badly does Conor still want it?  Floyd Mayweather received three hundred and fifty million for his bout with Conor. Conor received one hundred million dollars, Not bad for a night’s work.
A smart move would be to retire and stay retired. No fighter is unassailable, but l don’t see a defeat in Khabib’s near future. That’s the only fight the public wants to see Conor in, is the Khabib rematch.

Conor Mcgregor Vs. Nate Diaz….

After Conor’s defeat in the first Diaz fight, Team Connor was able to go away study the fight and devise a plan to defeat Nate Diaz. They studied the first fight, studied Diaz’s other fights. They were able to implement a strategy that saw the Notorious victorious in the grudge filled rematch.
Yet looking back to Conor Vs. Khabib it’s hard to see what Conor can do differently to bring forth a different outcome.

McGregor & Diaz congratulate each other

The strategy with Diaz ‘part two’ was don’t grapple with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert. Every time Diaz went for the takedown, Conor jumped, hopped, skipped out of Diaz’s reach. He kept the fight standing up, to Conor’s advantage. Securing a points win for the Irish superstar.

Rematch for Conor McGregor?

Yet this strategy won’t work with Khabib, obviously, any person in their right mind where self-preservation is an instinct they possess would avoid a ground fight with Khabib. Yet in their first encounter, Khabib had a better stand up game. Khabib not only showed he can fight standing up but had the better shots, rocking Conor with a hard right hard hand. Khabib although never really tested did show he has a chin and can take a good shot! Walking through Conor’s best-left hooks and the straight left’s like a sparring session with an inferior opponent.

In Conclusion…..

So Conor’s left is not going to get any stronger and as you fight fans know beating Khabib on the ground is a laughable exercise in futility.  If you review all of Khabib’s fights, he’s not bloodied at the end of any of his fights. No cut eyes, no puffed-up face from absorbing hard shots, no broken nose bleeding profusely.  Khabib looks like he’s just finished a light workout and the opponent looks as though he’s just stepped off a battlefield.

So in conclusion, l don’t see a realistic strategy where Conor defeats Khabib. Conor should enjoy his millions, enjoy his young family, enjoy being a young multi-millionaire entrepreneur. Where’s the incentive to get choked out by hard as nails Russians, or take shin kicks and flying knees to the face….?
